Physical Education and Homeschool

If I’m really being honest with myself about choosing to home educate my children, one of the ways I feel like I’m depriving them is from one of my favorite childhood memories…elementary school P.E. That’s right physical education people!! Now I know some homeschoolers stay active by playing sports and maybe walking with their mom around the neighborhood for exercise, but what about kickball and teaching the fundamentals of basic sports? Perhaps the sound of a dodgeball hitting you in the face or being chosen last for the team is filling you with anxiety at this very moment, but there were some…

Anonymous Response to Beachbody Breakup Post

I don’t know if I could ever have imagined the enormous response and outpouring of support over last week’s Breaking Up with Beachbody post!! Thank you all so much!! Knowing you all not only related to where I was coming from, but caught my humor was awesome!!! A dear friend and reader shared a perspective with me in a personal message (apparently many of my readers were hesitant to share their thoughts on the post publicly due to friends who are beachbody coaches) that I thought really needed to be out there. I hadn’t even thought about much of what…

The day I broke up with Beachbody…Forever!

Dear Beachbody, Let me start by saying, it’s not you, it’s me.  O.K. well, actually it’s not me, it’s you, but there is someone else out there for you, tons of people actually, it’s just that I’m not one of them. We had fun while it lasted, but I need someone with more substance, you know….just a little less superficial.  I want more than chasing my 20 year old body and, honestly, that is all you make me want to do. As much as I have loved the way our late night infomercials created a longing to…

My 7 Favorite Charlotte Mason Resources| Home education

My children are captivated.  The silence and motionlessness confirms any doubt I had about whether this book was a good, “living” book.  As they strain to hear every word, they see me, their mother, pacing the living room in excitement, baby strapped to me, enjoying our literature just as much as they are.   This, my friends, is Charlotte Mason Education.   Racing from our car…er…I mean huge white van, my children dash into the trees. They know this trail and their boundaries.  I’m walking as I strap my 4 month old to my body to catch up to…

10 Signs You are Normal (Just Like the Rest of Us in Motherhood)

Every now and then when several of my 7 children and I are piled on the floor crying over the frustrations of the moment, I wonder, is this normal? I’ve never felt it necessary to fit into a mold or look to others for acceptance, but in this role of motherhood and even sometimes as a wife I have wondered if other women have the same struggles. I’ve asked the question. You’ve asked the question. Is this normal? You are having a conversation with a friend over coffee and you are just catching up on life and as…

Gray Hair, Body Image and Not Wasting Your Life.

I’m sure you recently saw the viral video of the You Tuber over at The Stay at Home Chef.  If you have not seen her video about the comment she received on her blog, then please watch it here, first, BUT don’t get all caught up in the yummy food yet, COME BACK!! Ok…did you watch it? Now, let’s chat! EWWWW…People are mean!! Don’t be mean. The older I get the more I understand the old saying, “If you don’t have anything nice to say then don’t say anything at all!”   I have not always been kind with my…

Intentional Living | Choices for the New Year

Several months ago on the way home from a friends house,in my van, with my 7 children, it hit me. I want to live intentionally. I want to chase my dreams with purpose and joy. THIS is MY life. I’m not talking the, “Holy Crap, this is my life and I can’t believe we now have to have a passenger van!” sort of thought, but more of a realistic epiphany about who I am, where I want to be and how I’m going to let God get me to where He wants me to be.  I was created with purpose!!…

Serenity Grows | Supported in Breastfeeding: Stories of Nourishing Wisdom

As I opened my eyes I beheld the sweet boy who had nursed all through night. Through my exhausted, crusty eyes, I saw he had not only rolled on his side, but had clenched his fat hands to his mama’s nursing tank top.  Oh the joys of nourishing your child that you never even thought to long for. I have nourished 7 of my own children with my breastmilk and helped to sustain another child once too.  My husband confessed to me once, he was a little jealous he would never really know what it felt like for…
