Encouragement for the Pregnant Mama

Dear Pregnant Mama, As I write to you, I’m pregnant myself. My due date was 3 days ago actually and this is baby # 7 by the way. Hopefully be the end of this month, I will have had 7 children in the last 9 calendar years. I’m no stranger to pregnancy or the crazy roller coaster of emotions that can often accompany it. Yes, of course, children are a blessing and pregnancy is a privilege, but mama, I know it can be tough too…REALLY tough. I’m pressed to encourage you this morning… You can do this, but more shockingly…

Be A Better Mom Monday | Walk Worthy of the Calling

In just two verses of, what has come to be my absolute favorite chapter of the Bible for wifing and mothering, I’m filled with both conviction and hope, overflowing.   Christianity is a calling, I’ve always known, but over the years it’s been more difficult for me to believe motherhood is a calling too.  Women say it all the time and you want it to be true because it’s your season of life, but some days it seems like you’ve drawn the short end of the stick and missed your “calling” all together.   And aren’t those the lies of…

Be A Better Mom Monday| Trusting the Lord | YOUR Will Not Mine, Be Done

My head was about to explode. My first venture out with all 5 children and the pickup of my 5 year old from his Awanas class was not going well. I had a handsome newborn in a stroller, and 3 other active children trying to pull out hymnals, pencils and pads of paper from all different pews. The teacher was running past 5 o’clock and these kids were hungry and difficult to contain. As the class finally ended and I had just gotten everyone’s hands touching the stroller to exit the building, I was stopped by a young woman.…

Be A Better Mom Monday | A (Pain Free) Birth Story

Even though I’m quickly approaching the birth of my 5th child, fear still strikes at my heart when I think of actually having to go through labor again.  I know this is the case for many women, but I have also noticed it is not for others.  In an effort to relax and let go of fear, I have asked my doula to share one of her birth stories. May it encourage you the way it has encouraged me. A Birth Story by Cris Harper of North County Natural Birth With my second pregnancy I really didn’t know what to expect…

Be A Better Mom Monday | A Fall Bucket List

We are having a lovely time enjoying the fall weather at our house. We are in southern California, so it’s not like there are piles of leaves on the ground, but the wind has picked up and the sun isn’t blazing down on us. We had our first “rain” and are looking forward to a couple months of fall festivities.  I thought it would be fun to make little fall bucket list, of sorts, to see if I actually keep a list if we could actually do more seasonal activities than normal.  My Fall Bucket List is…

Be A Better Mom Monday |Parenting Reminders

Parenting can be so difficult, I imagine whatever season you are in, parenting has its difficult days.  We are in a season with very small children who are still, for the most part very dependent on us to meet many, if not all of their needs.  When baby #5 joins us, we will have 5 children under the age of 6 for 3 months!!  Some days I’m overwhelmed. Most days I’m exhausted. I woke up this morning with parenting reminders on my heart. Perhaps they will help get you through this Monday.   Parenting Reminders:  Our children are precious,…

Be A Better Mom Monday | Enjoy Your Children

Today I was blessed to be able to take all 4 of my children to the zoo.  While they enjoyed the elephants, rhinos and giraffes, they were just as memorized by the beetle their uncle found, the crows picking up left over french fries and the statues, mere replicas of the live animals often right in front of them. This was fascinating, and though for moments I was frustrated with their “lack of seeing the big picture” in the end I chose to enjoy the zoo through their eyes.  EVERTYHING was precious, new and spectacular…and so I noticed too,…

Be A Better Mom Monday | I’m a better mom when…

I’ve noticed some trends in our household.  There are simple a few commonalities on the days when I feel like I rock this parenting thing.  (Though they do feel few and far between most of the thim.)   I’m a better mom when… …I wake up before my children. …spend time in the Word before we start on our daily routine. …my to do list isn’t full. (Having  a weekly list, seems to work out better for me.) …I remember to spend time playing with my children.   I know, and anyone who has every spoken to me for more…
