Be A Better Wife Wednesday | Book Study: The Excellent Wife (Chapter 8)

A SAHM’s domain is her home. Any wife really, home is her thing.  There is the ol’  “But is it the woman’s responsibility” argument, which if you are a Christian I will not entertain because of the scriptural support (Mainly Titus 2 and 1Tim 5)  and if you aren’t then I will just leave that for you to hash out with your husband. I’m going to move forward in this post acknowledging a few truths: A wife should take care of her home We are not to be lazy. We are not to be “too busy”. If you have run…

Be A Better Wife Wednesdays |Book Study: The Excellent Wife (Chapter 1)

I’m with Martha on this one, submissive was not a word I ever associated with myself, but the only thing I never argue with is the Bible. So, of course, God would put right there for me (and you) to see!!  “Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord.”Ephesians 5:22 AND in case you missed it, or thought it was a mistake… ” Wives, submit yourselves to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord.” Colossians 3:18 A dear friend of ours once told me when he first met Amos and I he would literally cringe…

Be A Better Wife Wednesday | Let it Go

I’ve heard it said, the best marriages are ones who have 2 good “forgivers”.  I bet it’s true too!! Marriage is better when you just let it go. My husband likes to remind me how flawed he is. He always wants me to remember he is a sinner and will fail me.  Being he is the best man I’ve ever known, I struggle with remembering those truths on occasion. Anyone who has been in a relationship more than a few hours can tell you their partner isn’t perfect. We say things like “they are perfect for us.” or…

Be A Better Wife Wednesday | Words Your Husband Needs to Hear

Rough waters have hit our home and I notice the effects, even in my marriage.  The stresses of life can overwhelm us, but sometimes I forget they might be overwhelming my husband too. As I was pondering what to write for today’s post, I thought of this week’s events.  There was injury, heartbreak and trials up the wazoo! There were these few moments though when I saw my husband’s face light up.  There were things, I didn’t even know he needed to hear. Words, I thought I was saying out loud more for myself than anything else, but they…

Be A Better Wife Wednesday | Encouraging Scripture

My qualities as a wife seem to be lacking, so today I’m going remind myself, and you if needed, how I should be acting.  1. Be humble. 2. Be gentle. 3. Be patient. “I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love,  endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” Ephesians 4:1-3 4. Speak in edification with grace “Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good…

Laundry and Tears | Life Overwhelming

As I sat across from a friend sipping a half cup of coffee filled with mostly unhealthy yummy creamer, I felt my eyes well up as I began to relay how long I have been trying to catch up on my laundry. Perhaps part of my problem is I will NEVER really be “caught up” on laundry in a home with 6 people, 4 of which contribute much to the laundry problem and very little to the laundry solution.  And yet, there I sat choked up over laundry…really…I mean there are people with real problems out there and I’m crying…

Be A Better Wife Wednesday | Respect Your Husband |Be A Respectful Wife

To be quite honest I always assumed respect was a feeling and if I “respected” my husband he would know it.  I can’t think of anything farther from the truth.  We might “feel” we respect our husband’s but we do and/or say things he sees as completely disrespectful.  There are even a few specific ways I see women publically disrespect their husband which horrify me. I always immediately begin silently praying for the Lord to show me ways I’m disrespecting my husband I may not have realized.  I have to believe if these women knew how incredibly disrespectful they…

Be A Better Wife Wednesday | Ask Him Once. Don’t Be A Nag

Ask him once. Don’t be a nag. Many older (well, older than me) wives, even in the church mock at such a statement. Our culture is saturated with the notion if we don’t tell our husband a hundred times, he will never do it.  “We might as well just do it ourselves” our culture screams at women. It’s the ol’ If you want something done right, or in a timely fashion, do it yourself. We are so selfish and prideful we naturally assume when we ask our husbands to do something they will drop everything and put our needs before…
