Marriage is amazing. There is both joy and grief, hate and love. We can be our best and our worst selves with our spouses. Unfortunately, the worst often comes out in me. There are SO many “things” we are told to do as “Christian” wives.
There are books we MUST read and ways we MUST live…but really there are so many characteristics to strive to have/be in God’s word and they ALL are applicable in marriage!!
I’m working on mastering gentleness…failing daily, but striving for perfection in Christ!! I wish I could tell you I’ve mastered being gentle, but I’m working with all diligence noticing in my few successes the benefits of my growth and maturity are immense.
Breaking habits of anger, wrath, emotional responses, yelling and speaking course can be really difficult. It’s important to acknowledge our wrong behavior AND…
“A soft answer turns away wrath,
But a harsh word stirs up anger.
The tongue of the wise uses knowledge rightly,
But the mouth of fools pours forth foolishness.”
Look!! It’s even a fruit of the Spirit!!!
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control” Galatians 5:22
“All men” includes your husband!!!
“Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand.”
As servants of our wonderful Savior, we “must” not fight, but be gentle. WOW!!! What an admonishment!!!
“And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient” 2 Timothy 2:24
We are not to quarrel, fight or argue. Can you believe that!?!?! They say it takes 2 to argue…you know what? THAT IS TRUE! One person can diffuse a situation by being gentle. A soft answer turns away wrath!! It’s so true! I see it not only with my husband, but with my children.
May we all strive to be gentle in our lives, with our speech and especially toward our husbands!!
