Seek and Find |Devotion

devotional nt* Today we’re reading John 7: 10-24 *

Washed clean by the blood of Jesus… sin… salvation… the gospel… fellowship…body of Christ… repentance… born again… I’m kind of speaking in a covert language right now. Some call it “Christianese.” If you are Christian and/or familiar with the Bible and Christian culture, you understand it. If you’re not, you probably don’t.

As with any language disconnect, users have a responsibility to be sensitive that their word choices are appropriate for their audience, to recognize cultural gaps and avoid or translate unfamiliar terms. We Christians should be aware of our language and considerate enough to either avoid off-putting Christianese or be careful to translate it when needed.

Like the language we use, the culture of Christianity itself can also be misunderstood and even intimidating. Jesus (with his Holy Spirit) is the translator on this one though.

The entire world concept, the life, the message of the Bible, the message of Jesus – these things are understood after we come to Jesus. If you want to understand (and change your life), the Bible says to seek him and you will find him.

Come to God genuinely looking for God, follow the directions God has laid out for how we should live, and you will find God. The recipe is as simple as that. Jesus wants you to find him, to understand and connect with him.

Jesus said, “Whoever has my commandments and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. And he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him.”

To have Jesus as our translator, to have him show himself to us, thereby donning enlightening understanding upon our broken selves, we need only to seek him.
Seek him and you will find him.

May you have the heart to seek God.
