Be a Better Mom Monday: Seek Contentment

Overwhelmed with disappointment, I struggle to find some semblance of contentment. My day old coffee is warm, not hot. My children bicker noisily in the background of my thoughts.  On the bench next the front door sits a tall laundry basket overflowing with folded clothes. As I sit at my barely clear kitchen table with large decorated gingerbread men in my peripheral I hear a load of laundry in the dryer. This morning I pushed start for the thrid time. I will walk across a dirty kitchen floor to get to the laundry room that holds another full basket of…

I’m not giving up cookies for Christmas and I don’t care who knows it!!

Exhausted, I stumble out of bed and into my workout clothes, compression socks, running shoes and contacts. It’s dark both inside and outside so I fumble to find a hair band.  I don’t dare turn on any lights in fear of waking up a child, but I DO brush my teeth because thankfully I have a new neighbor I will be meeting in my garage for our early morning workout. I would not be up before the sun if it weren’t for her accountability, but that is a post for another day… We spend 20-30 minutes mimicking the woman on…

Sugar in your coffee.

He stands there lovingly with my favorite mug in his outstretched hand.  He’s made me a cup of coffee and I can tell from his eyes, he is loving me.  I can also tell with my eyes he’s maxed out my drink caloric intake with the amount of half n half and sugar he’s added to my brew. I have two choices…  Whine, nag or complain that my dear husband has made me a cup of coffee WRONG. OR 2.  Say “Thank You!!” and kiss the man who will be by my side until I die. I would just like…

Be A Better Mom Monday |Don’t Worry

My firstborn leaned back on the exam table. Shaking with tears in his eyes, he was fighting them back.  So tough and brave, my heart ached watching him hold to such manly qualities at such a young age. I covered his eyes as instructed by the doctor so the long needle digging into ino his foot wouldn’t startle him.  He had to be completely still for her to safely numb the area. So with a Moby wrapping my baby snug against my chest and my 6 year old in the chair behind me, I held tight to my oldest boy’s hand…

The Greatest Dilemma in Motherhood

It’s quarter to 2am, the baby has been asleep for hours, so have the rest of the littles. I just can’t bring myself to go to my bed. I’m exhausted, but I’m just sitting here catching up with people and life in these few precious, quiet, moments I won’t have in the daylight hours. I’ve watched ridiculous shows as I’ve folded piles of laundry. I’ve read encouraging blog posts on motherhood. (This one is really good!) I’ve let my mind wander back to days past. Even though my mind is telling my heart to go to bed, I can’t bring…

Baby #6: A Birth Story

Yes…I still have my shirt on… “BABE!!!”  I screamed at 3:30am Tuesday with the sense of urgency of a woman who didn’t feel like she was being taken seriously. For the life of me, I just couldn’t understand why he wasn’t facing me helping me deliver this baby!! Sure, I was in a wheelchair AND we hadn’t QUITE entered the entrance to the emergency room, BUT I HAD been saying the head was RIGHT THERE for the last AT LEAST 7 minutes. How do I know it had been at least 7 minutes?   Glancing at the time left to destination…

Baby #6: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

I stood there naked, in my dirty bathroom, sobbing into my husband’s white T-shirt. He was leaving for work and wouldn’t be home for about 36 hours. “It’s just 2 nights.” “You can do this.” And then a sweet prayer from the voice of my dear husband… But I just sobbed. “I don’t think I want you to ever leave again.” I whined between sobs. It’s only been 10 days since our new little squish, who we all adore beyond anything we could have imagined, has entered the world. I tell myself what I would tell any other mother at…

Gentleness | Be A Better Wife Wednesday

Marriage is amazing. There is both joy and grief, hate and love. We can be our best and our worst selves with our spouses. Unfortunately, the worst often comes out in me.  There are SO many “things” we are told to do as “Christian” wives. There are books we MUST read and ways we MUST live…but really there are so many characteristics to strive to have/be in God’s word and they ALL are applicable in marriage!! I’m working on mastering gentleness…failing daily, but striving for perfection in Christ!!  I wish I could tell you I’ve mastered being gentle, but I’m…

4 Ways to Help Your Pregnant Wife (All wives will love these though!)

Discussing pregnancy with a couple man friends yesterday was pretty hilarious. It seems our cravings and crabbiness isn’t always (or ever, actually) as cute as we think it is.  That first (and last) trimester is tough and though we are always sympathetic to the women in our lives we often forget all we put our husbands through during our difficult times of pregnancy. Let me say, I don’t believe it’s a husband’s responsibility to make his wife, pregnant or otherwise, happy but there are some things he can do, should he choose that will bless his wife tremendously during her…

What I love about California

We recently took a LONG trip across the Northwest US and though it was wonderful and we had a spectacular time, on the drive home I was so excited to get “home” for some good ol’ California reasons. California is my home. There are a few qualities about the state which make it difficult to live/pay taxes here, but I’m a Cali girl through and through. I don’t even know if I realize it until I leave my dear golden state for a time, but this is where I’d always be happy to lay my head at night. Since I’ve…
